NOCC 2012

This past weekend, JP and I walked with our friends in the Chicago National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s walk at Diversey Harbor. Our friend Laura’s mom passed away a few years ago from ovarian cancer, and my grandma is a survivor from the disease so it was something that was pretty special to us.  I was still recovering from my back injury so this was the first big “exercise” I would have in 4 days… pretty scary. It was kinda drizzling outside and made for a gloomy morning but there were tons of people there, music, and a great overall vibe.

Opening ceremonies at NOCC

After the opening ceremonies started, we got our walk on…2.2 miles to be exact and it seemed as if the cold temperatures blew in. We ended up walking over 6 miles that day (from the train to the walk = 1.2 miles, the walk = 2.2 miles, the walk to lunch and back to the train? who knows) according to JP’s FitBit. I felt every inch of that walk in my back but it was worth it and other than the back pain, it didn’t seem like it was that far at all.

It was a great cause and I’m glad that we got out to participate! What did you do last weekend?
